The leaning, leaning tower



Here's a fabulous optical illusion. The right tower seems to lean more, right? Yet the two photos are identical.



An optical illusion, by it's definition, fools the human brain into perceiving the image different from its reality. The fun question is: why. Why does my brain perceive the tower on the right as leaning more than the tower on the left? What possible evolutionary advantageous adaptation is misfiring for this particular arrangement of pixels?
